Clever Culture Systems is a joint venture of LBT Innovations and Hettich Holding Beteiligungs- und Verwaltungs-GmbH (Hettich) in Germany. Established in 2013, the landmark agreement between the two companies brings together LBT Innovations’ clinical technology expertise and Hettich’s hardware development skill-set to drive the commercial development and distribution of LBT’s Automated Plate Assessment System (APAS). The market-leading, innovative technology streamlines busy laboratory workflows, offering a modular approach. The APAS Independence launched in late 2017, with further modules and products, including the APAS Incubot, currently in development.

Clever Culture systems is led by experts with experience in medical science, drug and diagnostic product development and the pathology industry.
Its executive team consists of members of both partner companies, LBT Innovations and Hettich Holding Beteiligungs- und Verwaltungs-GmbH.

Clever Culture Systems

Peter Bradley has over 30 years’ experience in medical science and drug and diagnostic product development, and the commercialisation expertise to get innovations to market. With a career spanning laboratory medicine, the pharmaceutical industry, biotechnology and consulting, he has broad experience in business development, research management, technology commercialisation, and sales and marketing. Peter was most recently Managing Director of Qatalyst BioConsulting, offering strategic and business development advice to biotech companies in Australia and New Zealand, and regional assistance to US-based companies. He previously served as Managing Director of KODE Biotech and as Head of Product Development and Regulatory Affairs at CSL Limited’s Bioscience Division, where he helped to secure significant licensing deals for Australia’s largest biopharmaceutical firm.

LBT Innovations (LBT) is an Australian developer of clinical and diagnostic technology. Based in Adelaide, South Australia, the Company has two breakthrough products in microbiology automation: MicroStreak®, which provides automation of culture plate streaking, and APAS®, a breakthrough in automated culture plate reading, interpretation and reporting. Based on LBT’s innovative intelligent image interpretative platform, APAS specifically addresses the automated imaging, analysis and interpretation of culture plates following incubation. LBT also has a third product in development, WoundVue™, a proposed automation solution to assist in the management of chronic wounds.

The company is widely recognised for the introduction of the first microprocessor controlled and robotically integrated centrifuges and is today one of the world’s most successful manufacturers of automated laboratory equipment. The company is well known for its outstanding customer service and know-how around automated laboratory equipment. The flagship products of Hettich are the centrifuges which have been sold worldwide for many years.
