APAS Independence performance on show at ECCMID 2018

28 April 2018

A poster detailing the performance of the APAS® Independence in a clinical setting was presented by Lisa Brenton of St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne at ECCMID 2018 in Madrid, Spain.

The European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID), is the world’s largest meeting for clinical microbiology and infection control with over 12,000 delegates from around the world attending this year. The conference brings together clinicians, laboratory managers and microbiologists with companies to share and discuss advances in the control of infectious disease globally.
Lisa Brenton, Deputy Principal Scientist, Microbiology at St Vincent’s Hospital, presented the results of St Vincent’s Hospital’s independent evaluation of the APAS® Independence, completed in late 2017, in a poster presentation during the conference session “Advances in Lab Automation”.

The poster is titled Image interpretation of urine cultures using the APAS Independence – artificial intelligence in the routine clinical laboratory L. Brenton* (Fitzroy, Australia), D. Jardine, M. Waters, T. Stanford, S. Giglio.

The conclusion of Ms Brenton’s presentation states:
“The APAS® Independence performed with a high level of sensitivity and specificity and facilitated operational efficiencies. The APAS® Independence sorts negative and non-significant urine cultures which removes those cultures from the hands of scientists. This allows the redirection of scientist’s time to more complex tasks.”

A team of senior commercial and technical staff together with Peter Bradley, General Manager of Clever Culture Systems attended the conference and hosted an industry booth to showcase the APAS® Independence providing the ability to present the APAS® Independence to a number of clinicians as well as potential customers, distributors and partners attending the conference.

Feedback from the microbiology community in Europe has been overwhelmingly positive and Clever Culture Systems look forward to presenting the APAS® Independence to the US community on 7-11 June in Atlanta.
